Homicide Investigation in the 1700 Block of Church Street

On September 28th, 2020 at about 10:15 p.m., the Oakland Police Department responded to the 1700 Block of Church Street to investigate a ShotSpotter alert.

On September 28th, 2020 at about 10:15 p.m., the Oakland Police Department responded to the 1700 Block of Church Street to investigate a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition, the other victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The decedent was identified as a 29-year-old, male, Oakland resident.

Oakland Police Homicide Investigators responded to the scene and began the follow-up investigation into the circumstances surrounding the apparent shooting. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
