On December 15, 2020, Oakland City Council voted to adopt legislation requiring all newly-constructed buildings to be all-electric, except for attached Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).
The action will assist the City in meeting its Equitable Climate Action Plan goals to reduce carbon pollution. The new ordinance applies to all new projects receiving land use entitlements after December 15th, 2020. Projects that received land use entitlements prior to December 15th have until December 15, 2021 to apply for a development permit and not be subject to the ordinance.
