Public Safety Advisory: ATM Robberies

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) continues to see armed robberies of individuals at ATM's. In several recent cases, the victim is using the ATM when they are approached by an armed individual(s). The individual(s) rob the victim of their belongings before fleeing the area either on foot or by vehicle.

Public Safety Advisory: ATM Robberies

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) continues to see armed robberies of individuals at ATM's. In several recent cases, the victim is using the ATM when they are approached by an armed individual(s). The individual(s) rob the victim of their belongings before fleeing the area either on foot or by vehicle.

  • On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 2:30 PM, an armed robbery occurred at an ATM in the 3400 block of Fruitvale Avenue. As the victim made a transaction, she was approached by two individuals, both with firearms, demanding her belongings. The individuals fled the scene in an awaiting vehicle.
  • On Monday, February 27, 2023, just after 1:15 PM, an armed robbery occurred at an ATM in the 400 block of Lake Park Avenue. As the victim approached the bank, two individuals, both armed with firearms, pistol-whipped the victim, stole his keys and fled the scene in his vehicle.
  • On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, just before 8:00 PM, an armed robbery occurred at an ATM in the 3300 block of International Boulevard. As the victim made a transaction, he was approached by four individuals, three of which with firearms, demanding his belongings. The individuals fled the scene on foot.
  • On Saturday, February 18, 2023, just before 2:15 PM, an armed robbery occurred at an ATM in the 3400 block of Fruitvale Avenue. Following a bank transaction, the victim was approached by an individual with a firearm, demanding his belongings. The individual fled the scene on foot.
  • On Thursday, February 16, 2023, just before 1:15 PM, an armed robbery occurred at an ATM in the 3400 block of Fruitvale Avenue. As the victim made a transaction, she was approached by an individual with a firearm, demanding her belongings. The individual fled the scene in a vehicle.

To help reduce the risk of our community members and visitors from becoming a victim of violent crime, please consider the following safety tips and recommendations when making ATM transactions.

REDUCE YOUR RISK:

  • Always scan the area and watch for suspicious persons or activity around an ATM.
  • Following your withdrawal, put your cash away immediately.
  • When leaving an ATM location, make sure you are not being followed.

OPD’S COMMITMENT:

  • OPD Commanders are deploying more officers in the parts of Oakland where the increase in armed robberies is occurring.
  • OPD’s Violent Crime Operations Center (VCOC) and Patrol Division are using intelligence-led policing to identify and arrest those responsible.
