A Shooting in Oakland Leads to the Arrest of Seven and Multiple Firearms Recovered
The Oakland Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 2900 block of Capp Street. The incident occurred on February 27, 2021, around 6:35 PM. The Oakland Police Communications Division received a ShotSpotter activation of multiple shots near that location. Officers working in the area witnessed the shooting as vehicles were the only thing struck by the gunfire. Several armed individuals believed to be involved in the shooting fled the area.
For the safety of the residents and visitors of Oakland and the potential level of violence in the search for these armed suspects, OPD approved the use of the Emergency Rescue Vehicle and SUV, as well as OPD’s helicopter ARGUS. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search by utilizing their drones.
An extensive search by officers ended with seven individuals taken into custody in the 1100 block of 60th Avenue. Officers also recovered seven firearms, including high-powered rifles during the investigation.
We understand when crime-related incidents occur it causes trauma to our community. We appreciate those who came forward and reported this crime. We will continue to support our community members who were inconvenienced during this incident.
