Alameda County Supervisor and Oakland Mayor hosted press event to announce funding for local deportation defense program ACILEP (Alameda County Immigrant Legal Education
Partnership) for Fiscal Year 2018/19.
Amidst the current crisis of family separation at the southern border and a rising number of
detentions and deportations throughout the country and state, Alameda County extends its pledge to end family separation by committing an additional $300,000 to fill in program gaps through the end of the FY 2018/2019 which covers programing through March 2019.
This funding will help to counter harmful policies and work to ensure the separation of
immigrant families in Alameda County comes to an end. Alameda County continues to lead an
increasing number of cities and counties pledging their commitment to supporting the creation of a Universal Representation System, in which any person facing deportation has access to legal defense.
