An Oakland Police Department Investigation Leads to One Arrest and Two Firearms Recovered

On March 16, 2021, around 2:00 PM, Oakland Police Officers conducted surveillance on a vehicle believed to be involved in two separate bank robberies in Oakland earlier this month.

On March 16, 2021, around 2:00 PM, Oakland Police Officers conducted surveillance on a vehicle believed to be involved in two separate bank robberies in Oakland earlier this month. Officers observed the passenger of the vehicle enter a business in Alameda where he committed an armed robbery and immediately fled the scene with the driver of the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in the 2500 block of Wallace Street in Oakland.

For the safety of the residents and visitors of Oakland and the potential level of violence, OPD approved the use of the Emergency Rescue Vehicle and SUV. This deployment was necessary because a firearm was used during the robbery. Investigators believed the suspects were also connected to the bank robberies.

Officers arrested one of the individuals and recovered two firearms. The second suspect got away.

We understand when crime-related incidents occur it causes trauma to our community. We appreciate those who came forward and reported this crime. We will continue to support our community members who were inconvenienced during this incident.
