Arrest Made in Michael Burawoy Case
Today, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) Traffic Unit arrested an individual in connection with a fatal vehicle collision that resulted in the death of 77-year-old Michael Burawoy from Oakland. The incident occurred on February 3, 2025, at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Park View Terrace.
Officers located the vehicle involved in the collision and identified the driver. The collision occurred just before 7:15 p.m. when a vehicle struck Burawoy while walking in the marked crosswalk. The vehicle then left the scene.

Background:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on February 3, 2025, at Grand Avenue & Park View Terrace, just before 7:15 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the area to investigate a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they located a pedestrian who sustained injuries from being struck by a vehicle. Paramedic personnel responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to an area hospital, where they were unfortunately pronounced deceased.
During the investigation, officers learned that as the pedestrian was walking in the marked crosswalk, a vehicle was approaching the intersection westbound on Grand Avenue. The vehicle struck the pedestrian as they were walking in the crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision.
