City of Oakland Holiday Closure for Memorial Day

Oakland, CA — The City of Oakland’s administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of theMemorial Day national holiday.

Oakland, CA — The City of Oakland’s administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day national holiday.

While the City’s administrative employees are out of the office, if a situation arises that requires more staffing, the City has a plan in place to call in additional resources. Police, fire and emergency services are not affected during the holidays or business closures.

Specific service impacts for Monday, May 27:

Parking Enforcement

  • Monday, May 27, is a parking holiday. Motorists will enjoy free parking at metered spaces throughout Oakland.

Public Works

  • No street sweeping will occur.
  • Serious Infrastructure Maintenance Issues – emergencies such as sewer overflows, traffic signal outages, a fallen tree and major flooding conditions – please call 311.

Oakland Public Library

  • All library locations will be closed on Monday, May 27.

Oakland Animal Shelter

  • The Animal Shelter will be closed on Monday, May 27.
  • People who find stray animals and cannot hold them when the shelter is closed should call (510) 777-3333; OPD non-emergency dispatch will then contact the Animal Control Officer on call to handle.
  • Emergency medical calls for injured animals and active bites to humans can be reported through 911.

Oakland Parks and Recreation

  • Visitors will have access to parks; however gates and restrooms will be closed and staff will not be on site.
  • Fee-based programs will continue at participating sites.
  • Call your local recreation site to confirm schedules.

Human Services

Senior Centers

  • All Senior Centers will be closed on Monday, May 27.

Head Start/Early Start Programs

  • All Head Start and Early Start programs will be closed on Monday, May 27.

Broadway Shuttle

  • The Broadway Shuttle will not operate on Monday, May 27.

Public Safety

The Oakland Police Department offers these tips to make sure you have a safe Memorial Day holiday and summer:

  • Have a sober friend, ride-share, taxi or public transportation be your ride home.
  • Report drunk drivers – Call 911.
  • Hosting a party? Offer nonalcoholic drinks. Monitor who is drinking and how they are getting home.
  • Check any medications or over-the-counter drugs you are taking and how they may impact your ability to drive.
