The Community Day of Thanks, in its 33rd year, is part of the City’s Hunger Program founded in 1985 during Mayor Lionel J. Wilson’s administration. With the support of donors and volunteers, the City serves thousands of low-income families, seniors, and persons experiencing homelessness with a hearty Thanksgiving.

Monday, November 25, 2024: We will host a sit-down luncheon for 500 seniors from across Oakland. This special gathering will feature a plated Thanksgiving meal, prepared by the Oakland Marriott City Center, entertainment, and giveaways.

Tuesday, November 26, 2024: We will continue with the distribution of 2,700 meals at the Oakland Marriott City Center. Volunteers will be delivering hot meals to Community Partner Organizations for distribution. The City of Oakland is distributing meals to the City’s RV sites and Cabins. Blaisdell’s Business Products has again generously donated staff time and trucks to deliver meals to the distribution sites, with an additional 300 meals available for pick-up at the hotel.

It is with ongoing community support and generous sponsorships that this event has reached its 33rd year. We are grateful to our 2024 sponsors:

  • Kaiser Permanente
  • Golden State Warriors
