As the school year comes to an end, the City of Oakland reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all children in our community have access to nutritious meals. During the school year, approximately 33,000 children rely on free or reduced-cost meals provided at school. To continue supporting our young residents, the City's Summer Food Service Program will bridge the meal gap throughout the summer months.
Starting Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the City of Oakland's Summer Food Service Program will resume. More than 45 youth-serving sites, including faith-based and community organizations, will provide free lunches, with most sites also offering a snack. While most sites are open to all, a few offer meals only to children who are enrolled in school.
The program is available to all children aged 18 and under, as well as adults with disabilities enrolled in a school program. We are dedicated to ensuring that no child goes hungry during the summer break.
Finding a nearby meal site is easier than ever with the CA Meals for Kids app, available for smartphones. This user-friendly app allows families to locate free food distribution sites effortlessly.

The City of Oakland is proud to support the well-being of our community's children and families. By providing access to nutritious meals throughout the summer, we aim to foster a healthy and thriving Oakland.
