Community Tips Lead to 100 Pounds of Illegal Fireworks Off the Streets
Oakland Police Officers responded to a report of a person armed with a firearm selling illegal fireworks from the trunk of their vehicle. The incident occurred in the area of 7th Street and Willow Street around 7:00 p.m. on June 29, 2024.
When officers arrived, they discovered nearly 100 pounds of fireworks being offered for sale. Two individuals were detained, and one of them was cited for their involvement. However, no firearms were found at the scene.
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) extends our gratitude to community members who provided crucial tips that led to the successful removal of these illegal items.
The confiscated fireworks have been turned over to the Oakland Fire Department (OFD) for proper disposal.
OFD has set up firework collection barrels for residents to surrender unused fireworks at the following locations:
• Station 1: 1603 Martin Luther King Jr. Way
• Station 3: 1445 14th Street
• Station 4: 1235 International Boulevard
• Station 5: 934 34th Street
• Station 18: 5008 Bancroft Avenue
• Station 20: 1401 98th Avenue
