COUNCILMEMBER LOREN TAYLOR CONTINUES TO ADVANCE ECONOMIC, HEALTH & SOCIAL EQUITY, THROUGH HIS LATEST LEGISLATIVE WINS

Oakland, CA – During today’s Council meeting, Councilmember Loren Taylor successfully advanced four initiatives that will help deliver economic, health, and social equity to the residents of Oakland. A hallmark of his tenure on Council, Taylor’s continuous championing of deeper investments into and greater accessibility to local resources for marginalized Black and Brown communities will undoubtedly serve as the groundwork for future impact. His latest round of legislative wins includes the unanimous approval of:

• A status update on City Hall East, Councilmember Taylor’s initiative to establish a satellite location for City services that is more easily and affordably accessed by East Oakland residents.
• An ordinance directing the City Administrator to negotiate a lease agreement with Alameda County in partnership with the Black Cultural Zone to develop a food hub at Arroyo Viejo Park.
• An informational report on plans to improve equitable access to programming at Oakland’s City Stables.
• A resolution that directs City staff to negotiate the removal of the restaurant-related deed restrictions with McDonald’s and Taco Bell, so the Black Cultural Zone Development, at 7101 Foothill Blvd., can provide healthier food options to the surrounding community and allow for long overdue economic development.
