Crackdown on Retail Theft Leads to Five Arrests

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) continues our efforts to combat organized retail theft through proactive operations in areas heavily affected by these crimes.

On January 14, 2025, the OPD Special Resources Section (SRS) West conducted focused investigations at retail locations in the 1300 block of Broadway and the 5000 block of Telegraph Avenue.

During the investigation, SRS West Officers detained five adult individuals, three at the Broadway location and two on Telegraph Avenue. They also recovered stolen merchandise, including groceries, health, and beauty supplies.

OPD will conduct similar investigations across Oakland to actively address retail theft. These efforts play a vital role in OPD’s dedication to deterring theft and ensuring the safety of community members and businesses.
