The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on December 17, 2021, just after 10:47 PM, in the 4000 block of Edwards Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a passenger, who had exited a vehicle while in motion suffered from severe head injuries.
The Oakland Fire Department and Falck Ambulance arrived at the scene and rendered emergency aid. The passenger was transported to an area hospital and later died from injuries sustained from the incident. The passenger was a 41-year-old male San Leandro resident Christian Rodriguez.
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling southbound in the 4000 block of Edwards Avenue. Rodriguez was the front passenger and attempted to exit the moving vehicle and injured himself by striking his head on the asphalt.
It appears alcohol is a factor in this collision.
