Oakland Police Press Release

The Oakland Police Department stands united with our community. We are determined to help rebuild the safety and security of our businesses and merchants. Since May 29, 2020, nearly 200 of our already vulnerable businesses have been looted, vandalized, and destroyed by some violent disrupters.

We need your help in identifying and arresting those responsible for committing crimes that have harmed our community. If a business experienced a loss of merchandise, they are asked to complete a supplemental online report to document the incident at: https://www.oaklandca.gov/services/report-a-crime-online or call (510) 777-3333 to file a report.

If a business has video footage or still photographs that may be evidence of a crime such as vandalism, burglary, arson, looting or those responsible for committing a crime, we ask that the owner contact OPD by email: BusinessCrimes@oaklandca.gov

Please include the name and address of the impacted business (and police report number if available) in the email, along with a cell phone number. This information will be forwarded to crime scene technicians who will coordinate retrieval of the video footage. Photographs may be attached to the email: BusinessCrimes@oaklandca.gov

We encourage our business owners to opt into our Camera Registry Program (CRP). This is a map-based database and a website. The CRP allows residents and business owners to register the locations of their video security systems with OPD. OPD will then be able to see where cameras are located.

If you register your camera, OPD will contact you if video footage is sought in connection to a criminal investigation – OPD will always ask permission to review the video on your security system. Your camera may have captured information that can help solve the crime!

Recordings at the time of an incident may provide useful information related to the crime, such as a getaway car or the direction that a person of interest was headed. You can register your cameras: https://solar.oaklandnet.com/CameraReg
