Delivering Equitable Services

  • Partnered with councilmembers and Oakland Youth Vote to put Measure QQ on the ballot, which was passed by voters in November 2022 and allowed Oakland 16 and 17 year-olds to vote in local school board elections.
  • Led the effort to for one-time funding for Meals on Wheels (MOW) at-home delivery of tens-of-thousands of meals to vulnerable, homebound seniors throughout Oakland and critical relief from isolation
  • Partially restored funds for two long standing community partnership programs that provide critical senior services to the AAPI community to supplement services provided by the four City Senior Centers
  • Led with other council members the efforts to pass an elevator maintenance ordinance which will ensure that there are relocation funds and requirements for disabled tenants in case of elevator outage
  • Led and supported efforts to champion the development of affordable senior housing in Oakland, including at the Lake Merritt BART station
  • Added a fourth illegal dumping crew to provide greater citywide clean-up coverage and helped fund additional cameras in illegal dumping hot spots through the FY ‘21-23 city budget
  • Allocated additional funds to expand trash collection and sanitation to 100 homeless encampments
  • Supported International Boulevard Traffic Safety Quick Build traffic safety project to address traffic fatalities along this high-injury-network 
  • Secured funding for key traffic safety and infrastructure projects. Co-authored an affordable housing and infrastructure bond measure to raise $290 million for street paving & safer streets and $210 million for city facilities. Measure U was passed by voters in November 2022.
  • Won funding for a newly launched 25-member citywide Parks Ambassadors program to serve parks and park users 
  • Won $1.5 million in funding for cultural affairs programming and staff to expand support for  artists, culture keepers, and festivals
  • Partnered with youth + education advocates to reauthorize the Oakland Fund for Children and Youth investing millions in direct services for youth and families annually
  • Helped identify funding and co-authored legislation to prevent closures and layoffs at three Head Start centers, including Franklin Head Start in District 2
