Oakland Fire Safety Update & PG&E Power Shutoff Information

On Tuesday PG&E informed the City of Oakland that all Oakland customers affected by the 10/26 public safety power shutoff have had energy restored.
The previously-announced round of shutoffs PG&E anticipated for Tuesday night, October 29, through Wednesday morning, October 30, did not occur, and there were no new public safety power shutoff outages in Oakland.
The Community Resource Center -- launched in response to the 10/26 PSPS -- at Merritt College has closed.
The City’s Emergency Operation Center has been deactivated.The Red Flag Warning issued for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday at 4 pm has now concluded.
At this time, PG&E has not announced any additional upcoming power shutoffs.City Facilities and ServicesCurrently, all City departments are conducting business as usual.
Joaquin Miller Park and the Dunsmuir House were closed through Wednesday’s Red Flag alert and will re-open on Thursday, October 31.Air QualityAccording to www.AirNow.gov, as of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, 10/30, the air quality in Oakland is “good.”

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until Wednesday, October 30 at 4 pm, with wind gusts in the East Bay Hills forecasted to reach 35-50 mph. Relative humidity is critically low due to continuous wind events over the past few days, and fire danger is extreme.
PG&E has announced that it will begin a Public Safety Power Shutdown in Oakland starting at 10 pm tonight. It anticipates that it will begin inspections of the power lines at daybreak and will restore power once lines are inspected for safety.
The footprint of this PSPS in Oakland will be smaller than previous events, expected to affect about 7,900 customers, or about 23,700 people, primarily located east of Shepherd Canyon and above SR-13. Eight (8) traffic signals are affected. OakDOT has placed temporary stop signs at these intersections. The Oakland Police Department will assist with traffic control in the affected area and officers are conducting roving patrols.
All City facilities are anticipated to remain open tomorrow.

This afternoon PG&E informed the City of Oakland that all Oakland customers affected by the 10/26 public safety power shutoff have had energy restored.
PG&E also confirmed to the City that a previously-announced new round of power shutoffs will occur late this evening, beginning Tuesday, October 29, at approximately 10:00 p.m. This round of shutoffs will again affect Oakland. The weather conditions prompting the shutoff are forecasted to clear on Wednesday morning.
PG&E says it will restore power once it has inspected the lines for safety and made any necessary repairs, which could account for delay in re-energizing the lines. The decision to turn off the power, and the speed at which it is restored, is planned and managed solely by PG&E.
Please remain alert and prepared! The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, Tuesday, October 29, starting at 1 pm, and lasting through approximately noon on Wednesday, October 30. For fire safety tips and power shutoff updates please visit www.oaklandca.gov/firesafety.
City Facilities and Services
At this time, all City departments are generally conducting business as usual. Public safety services are prepared to respond to increased fire risk throughout the Red Flag Warning.
All public City facilities are currently projected to operate as normal during the announced upcoming 10/29 power shutoff. The City will announce any closures at www.oaklandca.gov/firesafety.
As is standard during Red Flag weather conditions, Joaquin Miller Park and the Dunsmuir House will remain closed through Wednesday’s Red Flag alert. Barbeques and fires are prohibited in all City parks on Red Flag days.
