The Keller fire operation has been successful and evacuation orders in this area will be FULLY lifted as of 8:00PM this evening. All residents will be allowed restored access to the area and to their homes.

The Oakland Police Department will continue to actively patrol this area as residents are returning home.
The City-operated shelter at Ira Jinkins Community Center will close at 8:00PM.
Community members are advised that the smell of smoke in the Keller fire area is likely to continue for the next several days, and does not necessarily indicate ongoing fire. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report fires via 911, but do not need to panic if they smell lingering smoke odors.

Update as of 6:00PM, Saturday, 10/19/2024:
The Keller fire remains ongoing, but fire crews and the entire support team managing this response have made significant progress today. Weather conditions have also improved, and the Red Flag warning ended at 5:00PM today. The evacuation footprint will be reduced, and residents' access restored, in some additional areas this evening starting at 8:00PM. A smaller area will remain under evacuation until further notice.

On this map, Zone 176 and 177 can be repopulated and accessed by coming up either side of Campus Drive (by residents only). Zone 203 remains evacuated. At this time there is not an estimated timeline for any additional changes to evacuation orders.
The City-operated shelter at Ira Jinkins Community Center, 9175 Edes Ave, remains open and available to anyone needing shelter from the fire and evacuations. It is projected to be closed Sunday at 12:00PM (noon) unless circumstances change and require it to remain open.
Update as of 10:00AM, Saturday, 10/19/24:
Fire crews continued working at the site overnight and no additional injuries or structure damage have been reported. Police continue to maintain the evacuation perimeter and actively patrol.

A shelter has been opened at Ira Jinkins Community Center, 9175 Edes Avenue. It is open now, and anyone needing shelter from the fire can arrive any time. The building has capacity for 75 people and currently has plenty of room.

The evacuation order is now partially lifted in designated zones, while remaining active where the fire threat remains ongoing this evening. It is clear to return home in the green zones. The Oakland Fire Department and mutual aid partners are currently responding to a 4-alarm brush and structure fire currently burning on 18 acres in the hills area around Mountain Blvd & Maynard Ave. Forward progress of the fire was stopped about 4pm today and as of about 6:30pm the fire was 15% contained.
Evacuation orders have been given in the area of Campus Drive and Crystal Ridge Court. A real-time evacuation map is available at https://protect.genasys.com where you can look up your location or address. IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE to determine if you are in an evacuation zone, please call OAK311 by dialing 311 or (510) 615-5566.
* If your home is in a red-colored zone on the map, the evacuation order remains in place and you should evacuate now or remain evacuated.
* If your home was previously in a red-colored zone on the map that is now green, the Oakland Fire Department has assessed your area and declared it fire safe and reopened, and you are encouraged to return home promptly.
* If your home is in a yellow-colored zone, you are in an evacuation warning area. If you are at home, please remain in place, prepare to be evacuated if necessary, and check the map periodically.
* If you were evacuated and need assistance accessing shelter or other resources, go to the temporary evacuation site and register with the City of Oakland’s Emergency Management Services Division staff and/or Red Cross staff who will be stationed at Burckhalter Elementary School, 3994 Burckhalter Avenue.

Update from Oakland Fire Department at 3:57 pm, Friday 10/18/24
Forward Progress has been STOPPED for this 5th Alarm Fire. With multiple agencies from several counties assisting, the fast moving fire reached 13 acres. As of now, less than 10 structures impacted by fire activity.

The Oakland Fire Department and mutual aid partners are currently responding to a 4-alarm brush and structure fire currently burning on eight acres in the hills area around Mountain Blvd & Maynard Ave.
Evacuation orders have been given in the area of Campus Drive and Crystal Ridge Court. OFD personnel are performing door to door noticing and AC Alerts messaging is being distributed to cell phones in that area.
