Oakland Police Department Arrest High School Coach, Who Attempted to Solicited Sex with 14- Year Old Child

Oakland, CA – The Oakland Police Department Vice and Child Exploitation Unit arrested a male adult who attempted to arrange a sexual encounter with a child he believed to be 14- years old.

Background:
On January 29, 2019, suspect Andy Michael Miranda, a male 34-year old San Francisco resident, contacted an undercover Oakland Police Officer who was posing as a 14-year-old child on an online social media platform. Miranda engaged in sexually suggestive conversation. On January 30, 2019 Miranda proceeded to meet at arranged time and location in Oakland with an undercover officer to engage in sexual activity.

On Friday, February 1, 2019, The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Miranda with multiple sex crimes against children. The San Francisco Unified School District confirmed Miranda was a volunteer coach at Mission High School in January 2019, but he is no longer coaching in any capacity with the district.
The Oakland Police Department’s Vice and Child Exploitation Unit and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office continue to work together to combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.
