Oaktown PROUD Volunteers Pitch in throughout September for Oakland Creek to Bay Watershed Education and Stewardship!

Oakland, CA – Volunteers and community members are invited to join in watershed education, pledges, and actions for the 25^th annual Oakland Creek to Bay event throughout the month of September.

Oakland Creek to Bay is held in conjunction with California and International Coastal Cleanup events, considered to be the largest organized volunteer days in California and the world.

Due to COVID-19, there will be no large group gatherings of volunteers removing trash and debris from land to sea. Instead, individuals and households will pitch in on their own for watershed cleanups and home-based water protection and conservation actions throughout Oakland.

The City of Oakland will collect, compile, and share results of these activities to celebrate the collective environmental, community, educational, and health impacts of so many individual actions taken together.

Cleanup actions for Oakland Creek to Bay also align with the Oaktown PROUD campaign which asks the public to “Prevent and Report Our Unlawful Dumping.” By pitching in against litter and dumping, Oakland volunteers and staff will turn the tide on these issues and contribute to improved conditions throughout the City, its creeks, waterways, San Francisco Bay, and beyond.

Oakland Creek to Bay kicks off on Facebook Live, Wednesday, September 2, 6:30-7:30pm. Speakers include Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, California Coastal Cleanup Coordinator Eben Schwartz, Lake Merritt Institute Executive Director James Robinson, and others.

Oakland Creek to Bay continues through September with volunteers rallying together through separate watershed stewardship actions throughout Oakland.

Volunteers signing up for long term projects can request tools and supplies from Oakland Public Works for their activities.

Volunteers who take a pledge and report their actions will receive an Oakland Creek to Bay Day bandana displaying Oakland’s creeks! (While supplies last).
