OPD NEWS: Public Safety Advisory
For Immediate Release: December 22, 2020
As we’ve reported the Oakland Police Department is seeing an uptick in violent robberies across the city. Over the last few weeks, our investigators have identified several trends where multiple suspects target individuals from the Asian and Latino communities.
The crimes are happening at various hours throughout the day. In most cases, a group of juveniles has targeted individuals walking on city streets. The suspects have been known to physically attack the victims knocking them to the ground and forcibly taking the victim’s personal property. In some incidents the suspects have been extremely violent by punching, kicking, and pistol-whipping the victims.
Most of the incidents involved juvenile suspects, however, we have some cases where adults are committing similar robberies.
REDUCE YOUR RISK:
• Beware of your surroundings.
• Don’t be distracted by your electronic devices.
• Be especially alert when entering and exiting your vehicle.
• Remember to lock your car door after entering your vehicle.
• Don’t carry all your credit cards and cash in your purse or wallet.
This an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Robbery Section at (510) 238-3326.
