OPD Officers Recover Firearm at Lake Merritt

The City of Oakland continues to experience an increase of people operating dirt bikes and ATVs recklessly throughout Oakland, specifically at Lake Merritt. On June 6, 2021, Oakland Police Officers supporting traffic control witnessed multiple individuals carelessly riding dirt bikes in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

Recovered Firearm

The City of Oakland continues to experience an increase of people operating dirt bikes and ATVs recklessly throughout Oakland, specifically at Lake Merritt. On June 6, 2021, Oakland Police Officers supporting traffic control witnessed multiple individuals carelessly riding dirt bikes in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

Officers observed one of the riders attempting to pick up a pair of goggles when a firearm fell from the person’s front waistband. The officer immediately issued multiple commands, informing the individual to not reach for the firearm. However, the individual disregarded the officer’s instructions, grabbed the firearm, tossed it, and headed southbound on Lakeshore Avenue on his dirt bike. The officer recovered the firearm.
