Background:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision. On July 3, 2023, just before 7:00 PM, a Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound on 45th Avenue approaching Bancroft Avenue. The Dodge Challenger drove through the stop sign at 45th Avenue and Bancroft Avenue at a high rate of speed. When the Dodge Challenger entered the intersection, a Mercedes 220 was traveling eastbound on Bancroft Avenue through the same intersection. This resulted in the Dodge Challenger broadsiding the Mercedes 220.
After the collision, the occupants of the Dodge Challenger exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. The driver fled, however, the passenger was detained and arrested on scene for firearm possession charges.
There were three occupants in the Mercedes 220, all Oakland residents. All three victims were transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, on July 4, 2023, one of the passengers in the Mercedes 220, a 94-year-old female, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
