Recovered Firearms, bullets and cash

OPD NEWS:

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a traffic stop which led to an arrest and the recovery of multiple firearms and firearm-related contraband.

On the afternoon of April 25, 2022, Oakland Police Officers patrolling the 8100 block of Mountain Boulevard, saw a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with a shooting. The officers initiated a vehicle stop, and while speaking with the driver, saw parts of a firearm in plain view inside of the vehicle. The officers asked the driver to exit the vehicle, however, the individual refused and drove off at a high rate of speed.

OPD Helicopter (ARGUS) followed the vehicle overhead. The vehicle stopped in the area of 14th Avenue and Interstate 580 Highway. The driver exited the vehicle, before getting back inside, and taking off. ARGUS continued to follow the vehicle overhead. The driver eventually parked near Beaumont Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, exited the vehicle, and left on foot. ARGUS directed officers to the area; the officers located the driver and safely took the individual into custody.

Officers returned to 14th Avenue and the Interstate 580 Highway, where they conducted a search of the area, recovering two firearms that were discarded by the driver. Furthermore, after a search of the individual’s vehicle and residence, officers located additional firearms, firearm-related material, and more than $14,000 in cash.
