OPD's Basic Recruit Academies Spread Holiday Cheer
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) proudly announces the involvement of the 192nd and 193rd Basic Recruit Academies in the 2nd annual "Toys for the Town" event.
As part of OPD’s “Acts of Kindenss,” which emphasizes the importance of community service, these two academies have contributed more than 100 toys, demonstrating their commitment to the community, and instilling a sense of civic duty in these recruits early in their careers.
The "Toys for the Town" event will be held this Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. OPD will transform 7th Street, from Broadway to Washington, into a festive winter wonderland. The event will feature gifts, food, and a special visit from Santa. This illustrates the spirit of community engagement that OPD fosters among our officers.
Through this event, the 192nd and 193rd Academies are not only bringing joy to children as well as, learning the invaluable lesson of giving back to the community they will soon serve. This initiative is a key part of nurturing a strong, community-focused mindset in future officers, ensuring they understand the impact of their role beyond traditional policing.
With the combined efforts of OPD, the recruit academies, and local community members, this event is set to be a memorable and joyous occasion, contributing to a festive and happy holiday season for Oakland's families.
OPD will be distributing tickets for food and presents on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be present to receive a gift!
