Oakland, CA ̶The City of Oakland Human Services Department’s Youth
Advisory Commission (OYAC) is excited to release the second cycle of
the #OYACgivesback Youth-to-Youth Mini-Grant Application: Supporting
Community Resiliency and Healing for Oakland.
Youth-to-youth mini-grants of up to $5,000 are available to support projects
developed by young people between the ages of 13-21 that support and increase
community resiliency and healing for Oakland’s most marginalized communities
that have experienced high levels of violence, trauma and civil unrest, with a
particular focus on communities in East and West Oakland.
To assist grant applicants, the City will host an Information Session and Grant
Writing Workshop for #OYACgivesback grants from 4:30-7:00 PM on
Monday, January 8, 2018, at OUSD’s Main Office, 1000 Broadway, Suite 150,

Minimum Qualifications
Project must be created and led by youth aged 13 to 21 in partnership
with an Adult Ally
Project must be fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
Project must serve Oakland residents

About Oakland ReCAST: The City of Oakland Human Services Department
(HSD) Oakland Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma (ReCAST)
initiative, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA), is focused on building resiliency and equity for
communities that have been impacted by high levels of violence, trauma, and
civil unrest. ReCAST goals include increasing access to behavioral health care
services, transforming systems to become trauma-informed and responsive, and
supporting community work to address tensions in law enforcement-community
relations and to promote community healing; #OYACgivesback is one
component of this third goal.
In the pilot year of #OYACgivesback eight youth-led projects were selected to
receive $5,000 each. Projects range from healing circles, to community
gatherings, to service projects and are currently taking place throughout Oakland
