On June 24, 2021, Council passed our FY 21-23 two-year city budget, meeting this historic moment by changing course in our city. Our balanced budget makes unprecedented new investments in our most impacted residents and neighborhoods and in transforming public safety.

Oakland Vice-Mayor Rebecca Kaplan is today thanking the State Legislature, and specifically Senator Nancy Skinner, for amendments to the Budget Act of 2021, which includes an allocation of $10 million to fund Oakland's Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (“MACRO”) program. We urge the Governor to approve it.

Now that the City has completed its public improvement work at the Gateway Industrial District (formerly the Oakland Army Base) — including installing all new roads, landscaping, and pedestrian and bike trails — it is now open for business.

Pursuant to the Oakland Right To Recall Ordinance (passed by City Council on July 21, 2020), the Department of Workplace and Employment Standards proposes to issue the attached Right to Recall Interpretive Regulations. After considering all comments, objections, and recommendations regarding the proposed regulations, they will be published.

The City of Oakland is currently reviewing submitted proposals for the General Plan Update Community Consultant.

On June 21, 2021, the Oakland Police Officers Association put out a press release with misinformation, blaming the Oakland City Council for the December 2020 cuts to the Oakland Police Department (“OPD”) Foot Patrols and Crime Reduction units.

This week, the Oakland Fire Department (OFD) was notified that its application for a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant was successful and the Department will be awarded $197,543.20.
