Amid the proposed plans to shut down three Head Start Centers, Councilmember Loren Taylor reaffirms his commitment to the program.

Today, Oakland Police Chief LeRonne L. Armstrong discussed the increase in the city’s violent crimes and homicides. At the start of the news conference, Chief Armstrong held a moment of silence for 87 seconds, one second for each life lost in Oakland this year. That’s one life lost every three days in Oakland. This same time last year, 64 lives were lost in our City.

Today, August 31, 2021, Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert and I jointly announced plans for a City-County collaboration to provide safe parking, managed RV sites, to protect public health and provide safer alternatives, with sanitation, for those living in RVs, vans, and other vehicles.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is working diligently to solve two homicides from last weekend.

Oakland community members put out an urgent statementdemanding the protection of vitally needed services provided by the Head Start Centers.

The Oakland Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on August 23, 2021, around 1:00 PM, in the 2200 block of East 22^nd Street. Officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a shooting.
