The Oakland Police Department is investigating an attempted theft that occurred on July 13, 2021, just after 2:00 AM, in the 3300 block of Alameda Avenue. Officers were responding to a call for service. After arriving on the scene, the officer observed a female standing next to a car. The woman appeared to be surprised and yelled a warning to others in the area.

Governor Gavin Newsom approved the Budget Act of 2021. The Budget includes $10 Million for Oakland's Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (“MACRO”) program — funding Vice-Mayor Rebecca Kaplan requested - to allow Oakland to provide a strong program of civilian crisis responders. Kaplan thanks Governor Newsom, the State Legislature, and specifically Senator Nancy Skinner, for her amendments to the Budget Act of 2021.
