Updates from the Human Services Department, January 2021

On January 26, 2021, at approximately 8:32 PM, Oakland Police Officers were dispatched to the 7800 block of Bancroft Avenue to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult (Oakland resident) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s).

On January 25th, 2021, at approximately 11:08 PM, Oakland Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of 55th Street and Martin Luther King Junior Way to investigate a report of a collision involving two vehicles.

On January 18, 2021, at approximately 6:01 AM, Oakland Police officers were dispatched to the 10200 block San Leandro Street to investigate a report of an auto collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian, who was unconscious and lying in the street.

On January 25, 2021, at approximately 7:59 PM, Oakland Police Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of 30^th Street to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult (non-Oakland resident) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s) in the 2800 block of Chestnut Street.

Today, the California Department of Public Health announced effective today the Bay Area region meets the criteria to exit the Regional Stay At Home Order. Alameda County has issued a new Health Officer Order to align with the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, and activities and businesses permitted in the Purple Tier may resume operation immediately. There are no additional local restrictions at this time.

In early 2021, the City of Oakland will update its 2016-2021 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). The process will involve detailing the natural hazards faced by Oakland and identifying the risk reduction strategies that can help lessen the impact of future disasters.

On January 21, 2021, at approximately 6:13 PM, Oakland Police Officers were dispatched to the 10700 block of Apricot Street to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult (non-Oakland resident) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s).

The City of Oakland is facing a sharp rise in violent crime. Over the last seven days, we’ve had seven people tragically killed in Oakland. To date, our Homicide Division has already investigated 11 murders, compared to one at the same time last year.

On January 17, 2021, Oakland police officers responded to the 8200 block of D Street on a report of a shooting. A male adult Oakland resident sustained gunshot wound(s) and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.
