OPD CARES is the Department’s new initiative, as we stand with our community focusing on the prevention of violence through outreach, and engagement. The Oakland Police Department recognizes the traumatic impact violence can have on a community, particularly amid a COVID-19 Pandemic. Any response to violence from OPD requires partnership with our community. As we plan to deploy additional resources to the areas most impacted by the violence, we remain committed to deterring further violence and identifying those responsible in a focused and intelligence-led approach.

Today, Oakland Police and Fire joined forces to provide hundreds of much needed personal protective equipment in East Oakland, one of the nation's hardest-hit communities with high rates of coronavirus infection.

OPD is pleased to announce the recruiting process for Dispatchers will open August 24- Sept.18.

Austin, Denver, Nashville, and San Antonio are among the nation’s major cities witnessing a dramatic spike in homicides. The city of Oakland has also experienced an unsettling rise in violent crime recently. Since Thursday, August 6, 2020, five people tragically lost their lives in our city to gun violence.

On August 8th, 2020, at approx. 10:10 PM, Oakland Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 1400 72^nd Ave. Officers arrived on scene and located two male adults suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

On August 9^th, 2020, at approximately 12:19 AM, Oakland Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 8600 block of Holly St. to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located two male adults.

On August 7th, 2020, at approx. 11:51 PM, Oakland Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 1500 92^nd Ave. Officers arrived on scene and located a male adult suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s).

On August 8^th, 2020, at approximately 5:59 PM, Oakland Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to the corner of Mandana Blvd and Lakeshore Ave to investigate a report of a shooting.

UPDATE: Retha Glenn was safely located. The Oakland Police Department would like to thank our community members, media partners, and outside law enforcement agencies for their help in locating Ms. Glenn.

The Oakland Police Department is requesting assistance from the media and the public in locating missing person Ms. Retha Glenn. She was last seen at her residence on Thursday, August 6, 2020, in the 3400 block of 64th Avenue Place.
