The Oakland Human Services Department’s Summer Food Service Program is continuing Monday, June 29, 2020 with the addition of new partner sites and locations.

Amidst a national conversation about racism and calls to defund the police in favor of repairing long-standing racial disparities, last Tuesday, the Oakland City Council adopted a balanced, $1.7 billion mid-cycle budget covering fiscal year 2020-2021, the second year of the two-year budget, which begins July 1.

As part of the City of Oakland’s Flex Streets Imitative the Planning & Building Department has waived fees and streamlined the permit process, making it easier for restaurants and retail spaces to operate on privately owned and leased spaces including parking lots, yard space, and courtyards.

On Thursday, June 25, the California Strategic Growth Council voted to fund Oakland’s “Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors” proposal through a multi-year grant of $28.2 million.

The Oakland Police Department is requesting assistance from our community members and the media in locating Xiao Fan Meng, a 79-year-old missing person at risk.

Today just before eight this morning, 12-year-old Kenise Cox was identified by an AC Transit Bus Driver boarding a bus at 1100 Seminary Ave. Oakland Police Officers safely located Kenise at the Eastmont Transit Center. OPD would like to thank our community, media partners, and outside law enforcement agencies for their help.

The Community Access Fund stipend application is now open for Howard Terminal Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) participants and will remain open on a rolling basis for the duration of the 2020 CBA process.

Stipend checks will be issued quarterly and administered by All Home.
