$32.7 million settlement brings closure to civil case in tragic incident

Three affordable housing developers were awarded a total of nearly $90 million, from two extremely competitive State of California funding programs, intended to develop green, resilient affordable housing in Oakland.
These three new construction developments will provide 462 units of affordable family housing for Oakland residents, prevailing wage construction jobs, and local contracting opportunities.

Denver, Chicago, New Orleans, and Nashville are just a few of the nation’s major cities that are experiencing a spike in shootings and homicides. In the first six months of 2020, there were more than 180 reported assaults with a firearm in Oakland, up 34% year to date. The Oakland Police Department relies on our community members to call 911 and report gunfire. However, roughly 86% of shootings in Oakland are unreported.

Late last night, (Friday, July 10), Alameda County issued a press release regarding updated State-issued guidance, dated July 9, stating that outdoor dining is prohibited in non-variance counties, which includes Alameda County. While Alameda County’s Health Officer Order had allowed for outdoor dining, the press release states that under this stricter State guidance, all restaurants, wineries, and bars in Alameda County may only be open for drive-through or pick-up/delivery options.

The Oakland Police Department’s Special Victims Section is issuing a public safety advisory to our community members.
The Special Victims Section was made aware of a male individual who is exhibiting aggressive behavior towards women in the areas of West Grand and Broadway, and the 500 block of Thomas L. Berkley Way.
