Oakland Public Works has recently completed the renovation of Hardy Park, also known in the community as FROG Park after the community group Friends of the Greenbelt. OPW and FROG celebrated Sunday with a ribbon cutting and grand opening.

Throughout history, what is just, moral, and humane has not always aligned with the law. It was once legal to redline Black communities and families, preventing them from accessing mortgage loans to buy homes. I stand with Moms 4 Housing who are bringing attention to the civil rights issue of our time: housing is a human right. The moms took a path of nonviolent civil disobedience to shelter their children and call attention to a system that continues to leave working families and homeless individuals behind.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee will present the Oakland Citizen Humanitarian Award to Ms. Clarissa Douthard, a passionate advocate for children and parents. The award will be presented on Sunday, January 19, at In the Name of Love, the 18th annual musical tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ms. Douthard, Executive Director of Parent Voices Oakland, receives the award for her outstanding work on behalf of the Oakland community.
