Sheng thao breaks through

Today the Oakland City Council voted unanimously to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Leave For Oakland Employees measure introduced by Councilmember Sheng Thao and her colleagues Councilmembers Fortunato Bas, Kalb, and Taylor. This ordinance was written in partnership with East Bay for A Sustainable Economy and other key stakeholders. Please view the ordinance HERE.

It is important that we prepare our homes, properties, parks, and city for wildfire season. In order to best prepare, I have partnered with Councilmembers Dan Kalb and Loren Taylor in order to host a virtual 'town hall' on wildfire prevention today Monday, May 11, 5:30-7pm.

Since 1954, it has been a beloved and time-honored Oakland tradition to gather in the Morcom Amphitheater of Roses on the Saturday before Mother’s Day to honor a woman who has an outstanding record of leadership and service to their community. Although the current crisis precludes a gathering, the City of Oakland continues this tradition by honoring the 2020 Oakland Mother of the Year, Harriet Schlader.

City updates service impacts to reflect last week’s Order

While the Governor shared his plans for changes to the statewide order yesterday, Oakland and all of Alameda County remain under the local order that went in to effect on May 4. The order was jointly released by the Alameda County Health Office and six other Bay Area health jurisdictions. These local jurisdictions continue to work on responsive reopening plans that maintain progress in the fight against coronavirus.

Staff Recommends That The City Council Consider Adopting A Resolution Proposing To Amend City Charter Section 604 To Ensure The Independence Of The Oakland Police Commission, Directing The City Administrator To Give Written Notice To Employee Organizations That May Be Affected, And Directing The City Administrator To Meet And Confer, As Appropriate, Subject To Further Council Instructions.
