May 1, 2020, Oakland Police arrested 43-year-old Jamal Thomas in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the 7500 block of Ney Avenue. Less than eight hours after the homicide Thomas was located and taken into custody.

Novel coronavirus

Order includes limited easing of specific restrictions for a small number of lower-risk activities

The Alameda County Health Office today joined with six Bay Area health jurisdictions to revise and extend the Shelter in Place order through May 31, 2020, to ensure we do not lose the progress we have achieved in controlling the spread of COVID-19. The limited easing of specific rules takes effect on May 4, 2020.

Sheng Thao OMAC

Oakland Mutual Aid Collective is organized by intergenerational women of color, who work to distribute basic needs supplies in their respective communities, which are disproportionally impacted by the spread of COVID-19.

We are fundraising to procure and rapidly distribute 30,000 reusable cloth face masks, public health information, and hand sanitizer to Oakland’s unhoused, low-income families, seniors, BIPOC, children and youth.

That is why I am partnering with community organizations to host five Listening Sessions in the coming weeks.

Small business

Our offices will be hosting a virtual Small Business Town Hall on Monday, April 27th at 2 PM. The Town Hall will give District 4 businesses a chance to learn about what resources are available to them during this time, and ask questions directly to Economic and Workforce Development staff.
