Earthquake safety saves lives. To ensure that Oakland's most vulnerable structures are strengthened, the city's Mandatory Soft Story Retrofit Ordinance requires owners of certain multi-unit residential buildings to show that their buildings are safe or submit plans to retrofit them to withstand future tremors.
