Today, Mayor Libby Schaaf reported the total tons of waste collected at three recent “Bulky Block Parties” across the city – free events where Oakland residents legally disposed large unwanted items such as mattresses, couches, tires, and even a few kitchen sinks.

The City of Oakland welcomes three FUSE Fellows for a 12-month engagement that runs through September 2019. These executive-level fellows will be embedded in the Mayor’s Office, the Economic & Workforce Development Department, and the Planning & Building Department. Today, the City of Oakland announced the appointment of Micah Hinkle as Deputy Director/Business Development Manager for the Economic & Workforce Development Department. He will lead the City’s programs and activities that expand Oakland’s economy and foster business investment. Micah will start work on October 22, 2018.

On September 17, 2018, the Oakland City Council approved $1,131,254 in fiscal year 2018-19 grants to Oakland-based nonprofit organizations and individual artists through the City’s Cultural Funding Program. The 79 arts grants range from $4,999 to $37,500 and have been awarded to 69 different recipients.
