Oakland’s Measure FF, a voter-enacted ballot measure passed in November 2014, provides annual increases to Oakland’s Minimum Wage based on the local Consumer Price Index (CPI). Effective January 1, 2019, the rate rises 57¢, from $13.23 to $13.80 per hour. The law also requires that employers inform employees of the increase by December 15, 2018. To assist employers, the City of Oakland has posted notification posters at oaklandca.gov/minimumwage.

Oakland now ranks among the nation’s top bicycle-friendly cities. The City’s investments and long-term commitment to bike-friendly infrastructure and services helped win Oakland recognition as one of just 34 U.S. cities designated a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community by Washington D.C.’s League of American Bicyclists (LAB).

Applications for Cultural Strategists-in-Government, Neighborhood Voices being accepted through Jan. 7

As part of the first steps in implementing the new Cultural Plan, the City of Oakland announced two new pilot Cultural Funding initiatives today that will advance cultural equity, belonging and well-being for all the communities of Oakland. The United States District Court Judge Haywood Gilliam, Jr. lifted a temporary restraining order and denied an injunction intended to stop the City of Oakland from closing a homeless encampment on public property in East Oakland on Constitutional grounds.

Beginning November 29, at noon, Citywide credit card payments will not be accepted.
