Unique Initiative will support Oakland-based Entrepreneurs from Underrepresented Communities

Today, the mayors of the Bay Area’s three largest cities, Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose, and the City of Berkeley spoke out against President Trump’s executive order on immigration. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address the many challenges the region faces from growing income inequality, lack of affordable housing, better education outcomes, job creation and transportation infrastructure improvement.

Today, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf issued the following statement in advance of the upcoming presidential inauguration. Mayor Schaaf also sent an accompanying message to City employees reaffirming key protections already in place to ensure the safety and dignity of local residents, many of whom are concerned and feeling vulnerable about what the new presidential administration will bring. Mayor Schaaf also expressed to City staff her thanks for their unwavering commitment to serving Oaklanders equitably.

Mayor Libby Schaaf and City Administrator Sabrina Landreth were joined by a diverse, cross-section of Oakland community and civic leaders to announce their selection of Anne Kirkpatrick as the City of Oakland’s new Chief of Police.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf today announced the pending departure of her chief of staff, Tomiquia Moss, who has accepted the position of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Families, a non-profit organization that works to prevent and end family homelessness in the Bay Area.

The Cabinet-level position to which Venus Johnson has been named is a key appointment for Mayor Schaaf as part of her commitment to a holistic public safety approach for Oakland. Ms. Johnson is the first Public Safety Director to be appointed in the Schaaf administration.
