Today, the mayors of the Bay Area’s three largest cities, Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose, and the City of Berkeley spoke out against President Trump’s executive order on immigration. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address the many challenges the region faces from growing income inequality, lack of affordable housing, better education outcomes, job creation and transportation infrastructure improvement.

Today, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf issued the following statement in advance of the upcoming presidential inauguration. Mayor Schaaf also sent an accompanying message to City employees reaffirming key protections already in place to ensure the safety and dignity of local residents, many of whom are concerned and feeling vulnerable about what the new presidential administration will bring. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf today announced the pending departure of her chief of staff, Tomiquia Moss, who has accepted the position of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Families, a non-profit organization that works to prevent and end family homelessness in the Bay Area.
