On May 25, 2023, Oakland Fire Chief Dr. Reginald Freeman announced the launch of a pilot program during which the City of Oakland will begin utilizing Real-Time Wildfire Monitoring System Technology (“Wildfire Sensors”) in Oakland’s High Fire Hazard Severity Zone to detect and prevent wildfires.
