The Oakland Police Department Traffic Division has seen an increase in fatalities on Oakland roadways. This year, 33 people were killed on Oakland streets, compared to 27 in 2019. Most of these collisions occurred between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM.

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at approximately 12:25 AM, a patrol officer was flagged down in the area of Collins Street and Joe Morgan Avenue regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

On December 07, 2020, at approximately 7:49 PM, Oakland Police Officers were contacted by a motorist in the area of Enos Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. The driver advised that he and the passenger had been shot.

The Oakland Police Department has seen a 38% increase in carjackings citywide over last year. Many of these incidents appear to be crimes of opportunity and in some cases, the victims are delivery and rideshare drivers.

UPDATE: The Oakland Police Department (OPD) makes arrests in connection to an attempted murder of two California Highway Patrol Officers. OPD officers and members of the Hayward Police Department’s Special Response Unit took two male adults into custody without incident, in the 400 block of Rousseau Street in Hayward around 10 PM Tuesday.

Oakland, CA- The safety of everyone traveling is the focus of a grant awarded to the Oakland Police Department. The $500,000.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) will assist the Oakland Police Department’s efforts to reduce deaths and injuries on Oakland roads.
