Tomorrow is May Day. Like many cities across the country, the City of Oakland is aware of several planned peaceful events, which the City welcomes and will support. However, it has been brought to our attention that others may be intending to deliberately cause property damage, violence, and destruction in our city. We categorically condemn any such actions and will do our best to hold any perpetrators accountable.

Today, the California Department of Public Health announced effective today the Bay Area region meets the criteria to exit the Regional Stay At Home Order. Alameda County has issued a new Health Officer Order to align with the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, and activities and businesses permitted in the Purple Tier may resume operation immediately. There are no additional local restrictions at this time.

This week, and potentially the next several weeks, Oakland – and other cities throughout the nation – may see planned and spontaneous demonstrations in response to the 2020 general election. While we’re not aware of any specific event of concern at this time, we are providing this update in our effort to keep you informed.
