190th Basic Recruit Academy Graduation

Today, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) welcomed 18 new officers to the OPD family as members of the 190th Basic Recruit Academy graduated at a ceremony held at the Scottish Rite Center.

Tomorrow, Thursday, February 2, 2023, Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, along with Mayor Sheng Thao and several Oakland Elected officials and community, business owners, and faith leaders will join the African American Sports and Entertainment Group (AASEG) for a press conference announcing an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) with the City of Oakland for the City’s 50% interest in the Coliseum complex.

Over the last four months, the City of Oakland experienced a spike in armed power tool robberies. So far this year, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has investigated four of these violent cases.

Oakland’s Mayor Sheng Thao has asked current Oakland Public Works Director G. Harold Duffey and former Interim City Administrator Steven Falk to serve as Interim City Administrators after current Administrator Ed Reiskin steps away at the end of this month. The appointments have been sent to the Oakland City Council for its consideration next week.
