The Oakland Police Department (OPD) continues to address violent crime in an effort to make the city of Oakland a safer community. In less than 24 hours, the Ceasefire Division made seven arrests and recovered five firearms.

Oakland, CA To combat the city’s growing public safety crisis, this morning, East Oakland Councilmembers Treva Reid and Loren Taylor moved for the full Council to revisit Oakland Police Department’s (OPD’s) Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) service use policy. The administrative item, which was forwarded from the Public Safety Committee to the Privacy Advisory Commission (PAC) for additional review, would authorize OPD’s enhanced usage of ALPR technology to identify stolen vehicles and track down individuals involved in serious crimes. If approved by Council, ALPR could immediately boost OPD’s solve rates for armed robberies, homicides, and other public safety issues.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a shooting with several people injured. The incident occurred just after 12:45 PM when OPD’s Communications Division received multiple calls of a shooting in the 8200 block of Fontaine Street, near the King Estate school campus.

OPD News Release

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is seeing an uptick in robberies of individuals at ATMs over the past month.

In several of the robberies, the victim completed their transaction at the ATM and was walking away when they were confronted. The armed individuals then rob the victims of their personal property and leave the area on foot or by vehicle.
