The Oakland Police Department (OPD) arrested an individual responsible for committing several armed robberies at liquor stores throughout Oakland.

Councilmember Carroll Fife and City Council President Pro Tem Sheng Thao introduce a resolution to move the City of Oakland toward establishing an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District (EIFD), and directed the City Administrator to deliver a report outlining the timeline and process for an EIFD in both West and East Oakland.

Today, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) welcomed 22 new officers to the OPD family, as members of the 189th Basic Recruit Academy graduated at a ceremony held at the Scottish Rite Center.

At a news conference this afternoon, Oakland Police Chief LeRonne L. Armstrong announced the arrests of 73-year-old Nelson Chia of Oakland and 33-year-old Hasheem Bason of Stockton for the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Lili XU of Oakland.

During the program, Mayor Libby Schaaf will present keys to the City honoring five Oaklanders who have made an enormous, positive difference in Oakland over many years.

Oakland’s ordinance requiring anyone attending large indoor events (2,500+ attendees) to wear a mask will expire on November 1, 2022. Patrons entering City facilities, including libraries, City senior centers, senior adult care facilities, recreation centers, and civic center buildings, are still required to wear a mask.
