The City of Oakland has learned that it was recently subject to a ransomware attack. The Information Technology Department is coordinating with law enforcement and actively investigating the scope and severity of the issue. 911 and fire and emergency resources are not impacted.

Oakland’s Mayor Sheng Thao has asked current Oakland Public Works Director G. Harold Duffey and former Interim City Administrator Steven Falk to serve as Interim City Administrators after current Administrator Ed Reiskin steps away at the end of this month. The appointments have been sent to the Oakland City Council for its consideration next week.

On December 20, 2022, the Oakland City Council passed a resolution that reinstates the mask mandate for everyone ages 6 and older inside city facilities. The mandate goes into effect immediately, with a sunset date of March 31, 2023.
