It’s been nearly a decade since the City of Oakland has experienced such a dramatic increase in homicides. This year the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has investigated 96 homicides, six of which occurred in the last five days.

At the Tuesday, September 21, 2021, 1pm Oakland City Council meeting, I have asked for the City Administration to share an important informational reporton the status of several vital community grants that I and my council colleagues advocated for and successfully approved, many since early spring.

The Oakland Police Department is requesting assistance from our community and media partners in locating Missing Person at risk, Ariella Rosenberg.

The City of Oakland released the following statement regarding the findings of an investigation into use of social media accounts by Oakland police officers.

I have received community inquires on how you may join me in urging the Alameda County District Attorney to join San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin’s lawsuit against “Ghost Gun” manufacturers and retailers. Community members who would like to join this crucial call for Alameda County to help in this important effort to protect our communities from deadly ghost guns, are asked to sign on to the petition.

At tomorrow’s Public Safety Committee, we will receive an update on the status of launching Oakland’s emergency civilian responder program, Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (MACRO). I, along with my Council colleagues, call on the City Administration for the speedy implementation of this important public safety service as an in-house program and to include meaningful community input and involvement, as was previously directed by the Council to include a community oversight board.

The Oakland Police Department is investigating a traffic collision that occurred on September 9, 2021, just after 8:30 PM, in the area of 38^th Avenue and International Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered three vehicles were involved in the crash.
