Proof of Vaccination No Longer Required to Enter Indoor Public Locations in Oakland

Vaccination still required at senior centers and assisted living facilities; masking required for large indoor events; City to provide high-quality masks to public in City facilities

Oakland, CA – The Oakland City Council has modified its proof of vaccination ordinance, lifting previous vaccination requirements to enter indoor public locations such as restaurants and bars, entertainment venues, recreation centers, gyms and fitness centers, City Hall, theaters, and museums.

Under the new ordinance, people entering senior centers and assisted living facilities will still be required to show proof of vaccination upon entry.

In addition, under the revised ordinance, anyone attending large indoor events (2,500+ attendees) would be required to wear a mask.

Patrons of City facilities will also continue to be required to wear face masks. As a building owner and employer, and to protect our employees and visitors, the City of Oakland may impose stricter masking requirements than what is currently required by state or local public health authorities. The City of Oakland will offer high-quality face masks (N95, KN95, KF94) to patrons entering City facilities.

The modified ordinance takes effect immediately and will expire on November 1, 2022 or when the declaration of local emergency due to COVID-19 is lifted, whichever is sooner.
